Help familiar skills become tools for new problems.
Explore more complex ideas when the foundations are ready.
Twelve maths families connect number, shape, patterns and real-life problems. The bands suggest a starting point; earlier skills guide what comes next.
| Family | 7–10 starting route | 11–13 developing route | 14+ advanced route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Number sense and arithmetic | Place value, four operations, tables and estimation | Signed numbers, primes, powers and roots | Indices, surds, accuracy and numerical methods |
| Fractions, decimals and percentages | Equal parts, equivalence and decimal place value | Fraction operations, conversions and percentages | Recurring decimals, exact values and compound change |
| Ratio and proportional reasoning | Sharing and scaling | Unit rates, proportion and scale | Inverse proportion and similarity |
| Algebra | Patterns, missing numbers and equality | Expressions, equations, inequalities and sequences | Quadratics, simultaneous equations and formulae |
| Geometry and measurement | Shapes, symmetry, angles and measures | Transformations, circles, area and volume | Circle relationships, coordinate geometry and vectors |
| Functions and graphs | Input/output and coordinate stories | Tables, linear graphs and gradient | Function relationships, transformations, exponentials and logarithms |
| Trigonometry | Angle foundations within geometry | Right triangles and ratio foundations | Trigonometric ratios, rules, radians and identities |
| Probability and statistics | Sorting, chart scales and chance | Averages, spread and exact probabilities | Conditional probability, distributions and inference |
| Calculus | Foundations through number and pattern work | Rate and area intuition once ready | Limits, differentiation, integration and applications |
| Reasoning and proof | Examples, patterns and explanations | Conjectures, counterexamples and deduction | Algebraic proof, contradiction and induction |
| Mathematical modelling | Money, measuring and planning | Rates, budgets, scale and data decisions | Optimisation, financial growth and model limitations |
| Further mathematics | Optional number puzzles | Number theory and combinatorics enrichment | Complex numbers, matrices, series and further extensions |
Your child’s interests help organise their course list. They can pick up where they left off, search for an idea or explore something different.
Every course and every lesson is completely free to explore.
Everything is includedArithmetic and fractions support ratio and algebra. Algebra connects to graphs; geometry leads towards trigonometry. Rates and limits prepare the ground for calculus.
Worked steps, diagrams and practice help children make those connections. Reviews bring ideas back, and independent questions give them a chance to apply what they’ve learned.
